Lifestyle Magazines

Modern Greek identity was partly shaped by the lifestyle magazines of the 1990s and 2000s.

In their heyday, Greek lifestyle magazines, starting with KLIK in 1989, were responsible for the modernization of the country's cultural identity and for broadening Greece's localised perspective by introducing new trends and references from the globalized world.

If you wanted to read about the advent of the Internet (or cyberspace back then), sexual liberation, queerness, hackers, electronic music, new trends, fashion or pop culture, you had to buy one of those mags.

Two decades later and in the midst of the Greek economic crisis, most lifestyle magazines went financially bust, their influence was diminished by online culture and they were condemned for promoting a shamelessly individualistic lifestyle of consumption, sex and false idols.

This t-shirt is a tribute to this era of optimism, newness, sleaziness and controversy, and features the logos of some of the most prominent lifestyle magazine of the 90s and the noughties.
